Lexington Co. Sheriff's Office - South Carolina 200th Anniversary 1804 - 2004 - drawing. The first recorded Sheriff of Lexington County was Thomas Herbert who was appointed to the office in 1806. Back then, the Sheriff's Department was a one-man operation with the Sheriff living and working in the jail and courthouse.

Between 1931 & 1934 Bonnie Parker & Clyde Barrow were well known criminals. On August 5, 1932, Barrow, Hamilton and Everett Milliigan were drinking alcohol at a country dance in Springtown, OK, when a Sheriff and his Deputy approchated them. Barrow opened fire, killing the Deputy and gravely wounding the Sheriff. It was the first killing of a lawman by Barrow and his gang. Barrow (age 25) and Parker (age 23) were ambushed and killed on May 23, 1934, on a rural road in Bienville Parish, LA.

This NJ Essex Co. SD - Special Deputy Sheriff (SDS) - patch was worn during the 1930s until the early 60s. Back then a sheriff would hand out SDS badges and IDs to friends, relatives & political supporters. The badges held no police powers. The practice came under scrutiny in 1935 after the murder of mobster Dutch Schultz. He and a few of his henchmen were gunned down in a restaurant in Newark/NJ. One of the henchmen had a SDS badge. Schultz lingered for 22 hours before dying of peritonitis.

The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was a shootout between lawmen and members of a group of outlaws called the Cowboys that took place on October 26, 1881 in Tombstone, Arizona Territory. Billy Clanton and both McLaury brothers were killed. Ike Clanton claimed that he was unarmed and ran from the fight, along with Billy Claiborne. Virgil, Morgan and Doc Holliday were wounded, but Wyatt Earp was unharmed.

Suffolk Co. SD - Massachusetts patch - The Honor Guard unit is frequently requested by various organizations to appear throughout Suffolk Co. and beyond to display the Colors for community functions, funerals, parades, and events.

FREE STATE OF JONES Jones Co. Sheriff's Dept. patch - Mississippi During the American Civil War on October 13th, 1863, a band of deserters from Jones County and adjacent counties organized to protect the area from Confederate authorities. The company, led by Newton Knight, formed a separate government known as the "FREE STATE OF JONES". In July 1864 Jones Co. had seceded from the Confederacy.
