Knox Co. in IL wurde nach Henry Knox benannt, einem Soldat der amer. Revolution. Die Brücke ist nach Jacob Wolf benannt und wurde in den 1840er Jahren gebaut. Jacob Wolf war ein bekannter Viehzüchter in Knox County.
Reiter und Rancher wie Wolf wussten, dass das meiste Vieh ängstlich ist, wenn es eine offene Brücke überquert. Weil die abgedunkelte Brücke einem offenen Scheunentor ähnelte, überquerte das Vieh sie bereitwillig und ohne zu zögern.

Die 1. Schlacht von Manassas (First Bull Run) war im Juli 1861 die 1. große Schlacht des Bürgerkriegs u. ein Sieg der Konföderierten. Eines der Opfer des Krieges war Judith Carter Henry, eine 85 Jahre alte Invalide, die sich weigerte, das Gebäude zu räumen. Ihr Haus wurde von Schüssen der Union getroffen. Eine Granate riss ihr einen Fuß ab und fügte ihr mehrfache Verletzungen zu, an denen sie später starb und wurde damit die erste Zivilistin, die im Bürgerkrieg getötet wurde. ----> The First Battle of Manassas (First Bull Run) was the first major battle of the civil war and was a Confederate victory. The battle was fought on July, 1861 in Prince William Co., VA. One of the casualties of the war was Judith C. Henry, an 85 year old invalid who refused to vacate the building when Confederate soldiers occupied it. She was unable to leave her bedroom in the Henry House which was attacked by Union gunfire. She died later that day. Her house is on the police patch. |

The county seat is Wray. Before it became part of the Colorado Territory in 1861, the county served as camping and hunting grounds for many different indigenous peoples, such as the Arapaho, Cheyenne, Kiowa and Pawnee. Yuma County was officially organized in 1889.
The “highest low point” of any U.S. state is found where the Arikaree River leaves Yuma County and enters Kansas. This is the lowest point in the state of Colorado at 3,315 feet elevation. |
